Hello! I'm Elisabeth
I have created this word search book to help you learn medical terminology in the most fun and engaging way possible. I got the idea when I was taking a medical terminology class and thought how cool it would be to find a book of word searches to help me learn the medical prefixes, suffixes, and root words. I searched for one, but couldn’t seem to find one specific to helping me learn and connect words with their meanings. After graduating and completing the MCAT, I revisited this idea and began creating my own medical terminology word search book.

Encode

Retrieve
The first step the brain takes when receiving new information. You can think of it as how we "get information in."
Where the encoded information is kept within our memory systems, short and long-term memory.
Our ability to "get information out," either from short or long-term memory.
How can Word Surge Medical Terminology ™ help you learn?
Utilizes active learning methods to help you effectively remember some of the most complex words in medicine. As we learned above, our memory works by encoding, storing, and retrieving information. We store information in short-term memory and then long-term memory. Short-term memory lasts up to 15 to 30 seconds, and the goal is to get these medical terms and meanings into long term memory. As you constantly repeat each term in your head (by searching for the word in the puzzle), the goal is to push it into long-term memory, simply because it will take you longer than 30 seconds to find a word and its meaning. After completing the word search puzzle you will move onto the corresponding crossword puzzle where you will put what you learned to the test. By doing the crosswords, you are testing your ability to retrieve the meanings of the root words.
When you buy a book
you are helping families care for their son or daughter with EB. Proceeds will go towards the debra of America foundation who directly supply individuals with EB the wound care supplies they need to live a more comfortable and healthy life. debra of America also provides education, advocacy, support, and additional services to all individuals with EB.
What is EB?
Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), also known as the butterfly skin, is a rare genetic skin condition causing the skin to be more fragile and easily blister or tear from the slightest amount of friction or trauma. Individuals, like myself, are missing a protein in the skin that acts as the glue between the layers of skin. It is important to know that every individual with EB is affected differently.
